Hello, fellow campaigners of the writing world! Aggie again with another week of the King’s Daughters’ Writing Camp. This is week two, and an update: I changed the wordcount goal to 20k since 30k on the computer is hard enough for me with my schedule, so by hand, 20k is still a stretch, but it’s gonna happen… hopefully.

Jekkh’s father has returned from his travels and something is amiss. 👀
I also wrote a new scene involving Dr. Robison, my favorite doctor. I stopped partway through though after he came to visit for breakfast.
I wrote 1062 words.

Finished chapter 4 by writing 458 words. More about Dr. Robison. He ends up telling one of the infamous stories of his previous adventures. I think he has quickly become one of my favorite characters to write.
Fun fact: Dr. Robison was originally created for the prequel as someone to be killed off because I forgot the main team needed a doctor and I didn’t have a plan for him, but as I wrote him, he was such a fun character that I couldn’t kill him off.

Wrote four pages, kinda rewriting what I had written before. Just had my old draft open and took things I liked in it, expanding on that. Also, found out that Jekkh is dramatic. I mean she is an INFP so hopefully, it works for her. It’s more of a naive drama though. Wrote 1009 words today.

Didn’t start writing until 5 pm. Talking about Dr. Mupheus and his crazy conspiracy books. Funnily, I only wrote about him to be a fun little easter egg for an inside joke, but my sister wanted me to write him into the story more. So, he is getting more page time.
But what is important in this chapter is that Jekkh is learning that truth isn’t always valued like it should be. It’s been very interesting writing from the perspective of someone so trusting and naive.
I also started chapter 6 from Camrun’s POV. Focusing a bit on the brother-sister dynamic as well as adding urgency to Camrun’s motivations.
Wrote 1,294 words today.

I didn’t write any words but started to transfer what I’d written onto the computer. I stopped though because I found that I might be changing the story to 3rd person past tense instead of 1st person present. I have multiple POVs so switching between 1st persons is confusing, and I absolutely refuse to have one POV in 1st and the others in 3rd. I find it annoying when it’s written like that.

One thing I’ve been thinking about the past few days is how I’m going to go forward with my book once it is finished. I want to maybe write the whole series so that I can format everything the same and work on illustrations and footnotes. I want it all to be cohesive and have fun interactions in the books.
I will be making graphics for emails or notes in the book to make it more fun to read, also I want to do some cool formatting stuff when they go to new planets, have fun maps, and more. This isn’t a book I’m writing to make money with but it is a passion project that I plan to pour everything into. I want it to be beautiful, professional, and fun, especially for the whole family.
So, I ended up editing what I transferred over yesterday, adding another 1.5k or so into the document. I think switching to 3rd person past tense was an excellent choice, cuz I feel it flows a lot better than it had previously and I can interact with the world a lot better without sounding out of character.

Only wrote 485 words today. It’s the first time ACTUALLY writing this book in the third person and it’s from Cam’s POV. I’ve brainstormed and edited the plot structure this morning, so it’s good to have that out of the way.
I also worked on worldbuilding regarding the science behind blasters as well as pirate weapons. Fun times. I’m heading to bed now.

Well, that’s all folks! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Do you prefer to write in 1st person or 3rd?
Do you like past tense or present?
Salutations, fellow adventurers!
Respectfully,

I alway write 3rd person, past tense. I’ve tried 1st person but it’s always feels weird. Your progress is amazing! I’ve gotten a total of 2277 words so far. My official camp goal is 25 pages and I’m at 8 so far. I need to get moving on it.

Hey, you have two weeks left, so you’ve got this!
And thank you! I am glad I switched from 30k to 20k because IDK if I’d be able to do 30k this month.
And I feel that way about 3rd person, but it’s definitely a learning curve I need to go through because writing third is probably what I’ll be aiming to write for this series and all the prequels.
