The Shema (Sh’ma) | My Faith

Hello, fellow campaigners of the writing world! My name is A. F. Kopp, and today I am talking about the Shema!

In college, I have a class on the story of Israel where we are saying the Shema together before we start the lesson. Apparently, it is normal in the past Bible classes they would say the Lord’s Prayer, but when the Shema was offered as an alternative in this class by a fellow classmate, the professor decided it was more fitting for a class about the Story of Israel. So, in order for me to learn, I decided it would be fun to make a graphic about it. I had taken a graphic design class last semester and I wanted to refresh some things that I had learned including the pen tool which I used for writing the Hebrew letters. I had fun with it, and am happy with how it turned out.

I really love the Shema, especially since my parents have a large wall-hanging of it in our house, and it resonates with me. “Hear O Israel” is such a chilling line to me: it really captivates whoever is listening to go on to talk about how the LORD is our God–Who is also ONE! And then it goes on to talk about how you must love the LORD with all your heart, soul, and strength. It is altogether a wonderful piece of scripture.

I know this isn’t much of a post, but with college (18 credit hours), church volunteer work, and a news club I joined, I’m pretty much either studying, at church, eating, or sleeping. I am very glad I can sit down and write this and then hopefully plot more of my sequel of “the Hope of Hattie Phelan”.

Salutations, fellow adventurers!

Respectfully,

Abigail Faith Kopp
