Hello, fellow campaigners of the writing world! I have some exciting (but extremely late) news to share with you.
I finished my first draft of my novel, “The Hope of Hattie Phelan” on October 4th, 2020. Yes, it is many months late, but I was updating my progress on my writing Instagram, @afkoppauthor (shameless plug). On there, I often share pics or videos of me writing so if you like to see stuff like that you can check me out on there (I have a couple different Highlights sections dedicated to just writing).
But, before I get too off-subject, let me give you the run-down of my book. I’ve been trying to write it since 2016, but this current version I started in April of 2020 during quarantine. I wrote a huge chunk of it during Camp Nano that month, but still continued writing it until October 4th. It reached approximately 69,500 words, which is by far my longest manuscript I’ve ever written.
I then got it printed as a spiral-bound book to edit (I got three so I could let my family and friends read it), which I finished editing on paper. I can make a separate post on the editing process, which should be fun. If you are interested in seeing pictures of my printed manuscript, you can check out my writing updates on my Instagram.

But, to be honest, this is the happiest I’ve ever been with a first draft of a book (though I see so many flaws in it, which I will go more in-depth in the future editing post). Usually, in the other manuscripts I’ve written for my other books, I want to push it aside and rewrite it completely with a new plot, but with this one, I am excited to edit it (of course rewrite some scenes and stuff) because I feel it is a good skeleton for my story.
That’s all I have at the moment, but another thing: If you want to see the first three edited chapters of my book (along with another never-seen-before short story), PLEASE sign up for my email list! Well, the short story was actually the inspiration for a novel I’m writing (on Wattpad, though it’s on hiatus). I’ll update you on my writing, give exclusive content, and share my life with you!
Thanks for reading! Salutations!
Respectfully,
A. F. Kopp
