A. F. Kopp (a. k. a. Aggie) is an avid creator with a love of the Lord and creating worlds to tell truth-filled stories in. Kopp lives with her family in central Illinois, hanging out with friends as often as she can.

Loving something can be a choice. Sometimes I have to choose to continue writing DESPITE what I feel in the moment. Not because I want to punish myself, but because I know it is my calling and I KNOW it is fruitful. And deep down, I know I love it. I love the worlds in my head and the stories I have to tell. Sometimes the journey sucks, but it is worth it in the end.

Got a decent amount of writing done, a couple side projects for projects Scope are in the works, and my schedule will HOPEFULLY get more consistent over the next few weeks. I started drawing my characters and I will say it has been something that I have been doing BEFORE writing. I am having too much fun and it is also very calming for me. Writing is neither calming nor stressful, but it uses my head more. With drawing I can just relax, listen to music, and let my hands lead. No overthinking. Just doing.

Overcoming a lot of fears lately. And a lot of cool opportunities 🤍

Life has been sorta crazy lately. I am almost done prepping the Arrogance of Elegance for publishing, but because of the expenses needed for writing, I have neglected other needs.

I need to buy a car. I am almost done with that, so the release might be off by a month or two so that I can do everything the right way.

So, hopefully I will release AoE before the end of the year. But please bear with me 🤍

There is so much to unpack about tropes and themes and things I like to see in fiction. I could make a post soooo long about it, but decided to keep the slides to as much of a minimum as I could.

I might make a part two sometime, but these are definitely my favorite.

1. Grumpy x sunshine. If done right, it is my fave trope. Almost all of my favorite couples to write, read, or watch are this usually.

2. Redemption arcs. Love me a good redemption story. It is a good lesson to learn from. To let go of judgments and LET someone be redeemed in your eyes is a beautiful and hard journey.

3. Reversal arcs. Also, to acknowledge that this happens is important. I know a lot of people don’t like this, but as someone who has briefly studied sociology and psychology, I find it so intriguing and IMPORTANT for us to look at the reasons people are the way they are. I don’t want to glorify it by any means, but I would be lying when I say I don’t find these POVs and Arcs to be interesting.

4. Unreliable narrators. I am relatively new to this trope, but the concept intrigues me. Idk if my book is considered this, but the way the MC presents the world is a bit wrong and misleading.

5. Tearing down toxic structures from the middle ground. I know there is good and bad in many things, but I love watching and reading about approaching the structure of the world from a healthy perspective. Maybe it is the sociology/psychology nerd within me.

This is why I usually shy away from writing by hand. It makes a huge mess. On the computer, I am able to organize quickly and reference with ease. But with a laptop that is basically just a PC now, I have to improvise when I want to write at the coffee shop.

Wrote 419 words by hand in an hour. For me, that’s pretty fast. I type faster than I write by hand, but it feels good to slow down and enjoy the writing process.

Trying to write Project Scope again. I have gotten some feedback since the last draft and now, after some decisions had been made, am diving back in while I am publishing AoE.

It is such a fun world to be a part of again. Very refreshing after writing hisfic. I love absurdism and comedy, so crafting this universe has been super fun.

It has been hard for me to admit that I am gonna stop writing blog posts. But with what I am trying to focus on and grow in, I think the extra baggage of writing it is holding me back. I don’t let myself do what I want to do cuz I put other things higher on the priority list. And then I don’t do what I want to do, then I don’t do the thing blocking me from doing it, and then I feel bad and don’t do anything. It is a constant cycle that I am trying to address.

We all start somewhere in our journeys. My writing journey started at age 7, when my mom had us write a book for school. Then, it slowly snow-balled into an almost daily ritual to write something. I can now say I have been writing for 17 years. Over three quarters of my life.

It has been a struggle, but God has really shown me that it is something I must do.

A couple years ago, I wanted to combine my two favorite aesthetics. Neon and Victorian. Thus this Neon Victorian art piece came to life. Taking the art of Winslow Homer’s The Red Schoolhouse (since it was public domain), I turned it into something that I would like to hang in my house. I then made ten prints of it because I wanted to start an etsy shop, but life said nay.

Sometimes, I just want to sit my characters in the corner and tell them to mind themselves. For the most part, characters don’t want to listen to your plot, but sometimes they have to. It’s not the time for that aspect of the character to get dealt with yet.

But that is a part of the writing process. Writing a book is a hard balance of having your plot and also giving your characters room to sleep

I don’t think I have really shared why I am writing this book. There are obvious reasons like

“wow, I wrote 300k last year and didn’t publish any of it (outside of Wattpad)”

or

“welp, this book has been in the drafts for five years”

Those are reasons to start writing, but why finish? What makes this story stand out? Why should people read this story, more than just tropes?

Here are a list of reasons I want to finish and publish this book (in no particular order):
✨ I love flawed characters. They are both relatable, and also tools for growth.
✨ biblical lessons. As usual, I like to incorporate good things and biblical themes into my books. This one has redemption from lying, manipulating, and deals with fear and pride.
✨ messy romances. Messy, as in flawed. This goes back to point 1. No relationship is perfect, and sometimes it is painful. I like to torture myself into reading and writing things like this.
✨ because I respect Jane Austen. I love that her books were definitely romances, but they focused on the characters and their, you guessed it, flaws. I want people to read my book and feel like they learned something. Like Austen’s books.
✨ mirrors society. This book talks about mirrors (and might even have one on the cover of the book 😉), usually in relation to how one views themselves and the world (aka pride/fear of man). But it also mirrors a lot of things in the world. Regency society outcast people who thought differently. Aka cancel culture. We have that in our world, but also, I think that sometimes the church does this too. But that is another post for another time.
✨ redemption for all. I am a biggggg fan of redemption arcs. Maybe it’s because I am a softie for character arcs in general, or because I am a Christian, or because I have been redeemed. Regardless of why, I love that this book covers this concept. With repentance comes redemption. Period. No matter what anyone else thinks.

So, what I mean by prize is that, sometimes, I treat writing as a treat after doing other things I deem more important. I often feel bad about writing when I could be productive otherwise, even when I know I am called to write.

So, I guess if Satan can’t get me to stop writing, he can make me feel bad for it. But now that I am aware, I will not let it affect me anymore the way it does.

So don’t worry about feeling bad for doing something you are good at or called to do. 🥰

I have always wanted to learn how to use a sewing machine, but felt like I needed to master hand-sewing beforehand.

I never was super confident with a needle, but as I have been around it more, I have grown in my confidence. Now I can easily mend clothes and sew on buttons.

Now, I have learned the basics on the machine. What is next? The possibilities seem endless.

My goal is to make a Regency gown within a year. Is that enough time??? That would be cool promos for the book I am writing, too.

I am very competitive. For school, we had to write a 20-paged story. No deadline. But I was lazy and drew pictures instead of trying to practice diction and spelling. But whenever my older sister showed me how she only had two pages left, I sprinted through finishing the book and it started my love for writing. Thanks, Lilly for the competition.
